Pregnancy and having children are defining moments in many women’s lives. Unfortunately, for many mothers, along with all the cherished memories motherhood brings come some unwelcome physical changes. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Kesh Nawada offers a mommy makeover to reverse those changes, helping women to restore their pre-pregnancy figures. By combining body contouring procedures such as arm lift, thigh lift and liposuction surgeries with cosmetic breast surgery, this transformative treatment can help women achieve a range of aesthetic goals at once. A mommy makeover includes a customized plan of procedures chosen to meet the patient's exact needs. Most of Dr. Nawada’s central Florida patients choose body contouring components such as tummy tuck surgery and some sort of breast enhancement. Women who are good candidates for a mommy makeover are generally healthy but feel self-conscious about the way their bodies look after having children. The most common concerns include:
- Breasts that sag or have lost volume because of pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Stretched abdominal skin
- Localized pockets of fat around the body that don’t respond to diet and exercise
Combining procedures benefits the patient by reducing the cost and recovery time necessary compared with having separate operations. Addressing multiple concerns at once also gives mommy makeover patients a major emotional benefit as they restore their bodies and their confidence. Patient safety is Dr. Nawada’s top priority, and he performs only those combinations of procedures that do not require too much time under anesthesia at his fully accredited, on-site surgical center in Winter Haven, FL. Dr. Nawada prefers to limit the number of procedures done in a given time, and he usually sets the limit at about 3 - 4 hours for safety. Dr. Nawada discusses these important matters during your consultation, as well as your family plans. Before considering a mommy makeover, patients should think about whether they plan to have more children, which could affect their cosmetic results. Dr. Nawada is happy to help guide his patients through these concerns and find a plan that fits into their lifestyle.

The mommy makeover procedure is uniquely tailored to each patient depending on what body part they want to improve. In most cases, the breasts and tummy are addressed together (though not always). The conditions addressed during surgery and the surgical technique used will vary.
- Conditions caused by pregnancy: Loss of volume and/or breast tissue, sagging and/or drooping, excess skin (ptosis), breasts that have become too large
- Surgeries to consider: Breast augmentation with implants, breast lift, breast augmentation with a lift, breast reduction surgery
- Conditions caused by pregnancy: Excess fat and/or persistent bulge in the abdomen, sagging and loose skin, stretch marks and other unsightly skin irregularities
- Surgeries to consider: Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction of the abdomen
- Conditions caused by pregnancy: Sagging skin and excess fat in the buttocks, hips and thighs
- Surgeries to consider: Lower body lift including liposuction and skin tightening of the buttocks, hips and thighs
All mommy makeovers are performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. Depending on how many techniques are combined, the surgery could last multiple hours. It is common for patients to have a short hospital stay with this surgery. Most women will require a full month to recover, but many will be able to return to work within 2 weeks. The results will reveal themselves in multiple stages as the breast implants settle into their natural placement and the incisions begin to heal. It generally takes a full year for all of the changes to make their final appearance.
Mommy makeover procedures will vary in cost depending how many surgeries were combined and how many surgery sessions are needed. At a minimum, if a breast lift with augmentation is performed along with a tummy tuck, the cost could range from $8,500-$17,000. According to RealSelf.com, after reviewing more than 1,300 women, the average cost for a mommy makeover is around $12,825.

Is it Safe?@headingTag>
There are always risks to consider when contemplating surgery. When procedures are combined, those risks can increase. Therefore, it is important to find an experienced cosmetic surgeon who is skilled in performing multiple procedures in one setting. Ultimately, a combination procedure can have numerous benefits, including only having to undergo surgery once — which means only one recovery and one fee.
What if I get Pregnant?@headingTag>
In a perfect world, women would wait to have a mommy makeover until after all pregnancies have been completed so the surgical results are not compromised. Generally, any body part that has been lifted or tightened would be at risk for stretching out if a subsequent pregnancy were to occur.
What About Stretch Marks?@headingTag>
If stretch marks exist on an area of the body (i.e. breast, tummy, etc.) that is going to be lifted and tightened, they may be removed when the excess skin is trimmed away. For any stretch marks left behind, as well as any other skin irregularities that may exist, there are skin-rejuvenating techniques that can help fade and remove these imperfections.
Will I Have Scars?@headingTag>
Scarring will occur with almost any cosmetic procedure. However, every effort is made to place and close the incisions carefully so that scarring is minimized. Scarring eventually fades into faint lines and can be concealed by undergarments and bathing suits. Most patients feel that the physical results following a mommy makeover far outweigh the scarring left behind.
Are Combinations Safe?@headingTag>
Patient safety is Dr. Nawada’s top priority. He evaluates each patient on a case-by-case basis and creates a detailed surgical plan to ensure the procedure’s safety. Dr. Nawada and his surgical team follow well-established safeguards and protocols for maximum safety and generally limit total surgical time to 3 to 4 hours. In some cases he may recommend staging the mommy makeover procedures in separate operations if he believes that is the safest approach.
Benefits of Combining Procedures
- Less expensive than having separate surgeries because you pay certain fees, such as for anesthesiology, only once
- Only a single recovery period
- A complete physical and emotional transformation
Only After Pregnancy?@headingTag>
No. The combination of procedures typically performed during a mommy makeover can benefit a range of women, including those who have lost significant weight or whose bodies have started to show the effects of aging. It’s not unusual for a woman in her 40s or 50s to want a tummy tuck and breast lift, for instance, whether she has had children or not.
Facial Rejuvenation Included?@headingTag>
Although most patients focus on body contouring and breast enhancement procedures when considering a mommy makeover, pregnancy and childbirth may also accelerate facial aging. We can incorporate minimally invasive treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing or cosmetic injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, into a mommy makeover for a complete transformation. Moms with grown children often include facial procedures as part of their mommy makeovers.
Wait Time After Giving Birth?@headingTag>
Each patient is unique, so one woman might be ready to have surgery sooner than another. But there are some general principles that can help guide your decision:
- Postpone getting a mommy makeover until you are sure you won’t be having more children.
- Make sure you are fully recovered from your last pregnancy. Get a thorough physical exam from your primary physician.
- If you are breastfeeding a child, wait at least 3 to 6 months after you stop breastfeeding before getting a mommy makeover. Breasts continue changing even after you finish breastfeeding.
It’s also important that you are maintaining a stable weight for several months before scheduling surgery. You should be within 10 pounds of your ideal weight at the time of the procedure.
